I remember the debate on Spyka's about Gay Pride and being told that the 'war' was already won on that issue so we should shut up and get on with being gay quietly and without a fuss.

i remember that too Laugh

Oh bizzie, rational argument, whatever are you thinking of. Wait til flossie comes along, he'll try and decimate you with his 'sharp' typing finger. Big Grin Hug

I thought Flossie's arguments were perfectly rational. In fact I know they were. I just happen to disagree with some of them.

Some of your retorts on the other hand... Shake Head Laugh

I though Flossie and cologne`s arguments were both perfectly rational.

As much as I like Flossie he`s not backwards at coming forwards with his own "retorts." I do believe he referred to some posts in this thread as idiocy. Laugh

It would appear that Elton John is unable to adopt.

That's just as much to do with his age, though.

Yes Joe. you are correct Nod

"Straights" as you put it Contessa have the choice, yes many do opt for a civil ceremony...but while they have the option and Gay couples don't...then no, I don't believe Gay people do have equality.

That's aside from the discrimination etc.

I do love it when people mention Gay people not "shoving it down their throat"...that's my very favourite part of these discussions Laugh

Sorry, not true. Sraights are not entitled to civil partnerships - for them, it's marriage or nothing.

the reason they can't have a church wedding is because the teaching of the church says that homosexuality is wrong, it has nothing to do with equality.

that was mainly due to the country he wanted to adopt from though, that country doesn't adopt to gay couples. mind you he seemed to want a particular kid he met...not any orphan.

mind you although it's not against the law for gay couples to adopt in this country there is stil ALOT of stigma about it.

Isn't that still marriage though, just without the religious gumph? Like, they still get a marriage certificate if it was at a registry office/stately home/football ground...
SazBomb
I think Civil Partnerships are a great idea, at least now in a way gay people or a same sex couple can declare their love for one another and in a way have the same rights as a straight couple. However such a shame some of the states in America are still bigoted and banned it from happening shame on them, but some of them have made it legal and good for them Thumbs Up.

wouldn't do for him just to have a british kid in need of a good home, madona got herself a foreign one so why shouldn't SIR elton?
ContessaQ
I'm not that keen on Gay Pride myself as I think it pushes caricatures as stereotypes to people in parts of the country where same-sex stuff in public is still a bit odd. I don't think we've won the war any more than those negatively discriminated against over ethnicity. It's staggeringly better than it was even a decade ago though. There will come a time when Gay Pride and role model promotion like the GG2 event in the opening post are completely irrelevant. I hope.

Yeah, straight people, when they have a civil ceremony (ie. not in a church and with no religious message in the ceremony/vows) they are still officially married...provided the venue has a proper licence and it's performed by someone officially allowed to do so.

Thats worra meant! Nod Laugh
