I opened My Pictures folder earlier and my Thumnails have been replaced by Icons. I did a Search and checked the Microfsoft Help page. Judging by the amount of pages the search threw up it seems to be a big problem.
I've tried lots of different solutions - going into Control Panel and Properties on the Task Bar but nothing is working.
Thumbnails are showing up in Widnows Picture Gallery but only JPEGS.

Any ideas anyone.
Thanks in advance.

I need to know too, cos I think I'm getting Vista on my new laptop and I'm secretly dreading it. Frowner

I put off getting a laptop as I didn't want Vista but it's been fine Thumbs Up think it's ok if the machine comes with it - the problems have been when it's been upgraded!

October 22 or 24 is when Windows 7 is released so all new computers & laptops will have it. Much better

Most from a camera but I also have some Gifs.

This problem is starting to irritate me now (mainly because I hate Vista) Try opening a new folder in my documents, copy & paste all the photo's into it see if they view different.

Don't know whether this is still causing you problems but I have just come across this thread and as I am using Vista on my laptop I thought I would look. In my Pictures folder there is a drop down menu labelled Views. There is a down arrow at the right hand side of this and there is a slider bar, that should take you through every view from large icons, medium icons etc. Just choose what you like the look of. Its quite good actually. I have XP on my PC and Vista on my laptop. I don't have a problem with either system.

Thanks Squiggle but that only changes the size of the Icon.
My problem is that I can't see a preview of a picture. When I open the folder I can see them for a split second and then they all change to the folder icon (mountain and a spherical cone).
Think I'm stuck with it.
Thanks again.

You see when I do the slider bar it changes from a description of the picture to a small picture image, a larger picture image and then a really large picture image. Are all your images in JPEG format? You can get software to change images from other formats to JPEG. Anyway I hope it helps to know what Vista operates like on my laptop wavey
