I won't give to cancer research or any of the other well known ones that spend millions on advertising...I prefer to give to the smaller less well known charities that don't get the huge donations the others do.
Croc, I sincerly hope with all my heart (the new one )that you never see someone dying of it - its very draining, disturbing, soul destroying and the fact we are helpless adds to the grief.

I have...my mother...but I still think they get more than enough of the pot and other charities deserve my portion more.

I thought I had replied to your pm then realised I hadn't sorry hun
as for your question here I would say this. Both medical research and child protection are funded by my taxes in this country - animal protection is not.
If you were to add what money is given to both of these causes by the taxpayer then it would come to a lot more than 3 quid.
i understand what you are saying about medical research but they must need more before before they are on TV asking for donations ?
I am a pet lover, and dogs preferbly, but cats can be fun too - because animals ARE lovable - if they are loved.
100,000 strays were picked up last year.Veggie thats a lot .I thought to own a dog it the owner had to be licenced ? I often wonder where the money goes - and where the animals end up ?

They should bring in licenses to be allowed to have children in some cases! As for the amount they spend on TV advertising, that alone proves how much money they areconning people out ofraking in!

I used to donate monthly to the NSPCC but when another child sexually abused my son and the NSPCC bought his abuser a football table for xmas I nearly hit the roof. The only support we got from them was a quick visit (which I had to phone 4 times about) and more or less told that that sort of abuse happens a lot and is just kids experimanting like fuk it is. So I stopped supporting them, why should I help buy my sons abuser a gift??

i dont think you should really dictate what people should believe in more
i donate to both..but if i had to choose...i'd choose animals. i prefer animals to people, and animal suffering is often due to humans.
plus dogs dont breed unless the owners let them...by not neutering to keep numbers down.

I used to sponsor a kid in Ecuador through Plan International. You have to bloody write to them and everything! No-one told me I had to do that. What are you supposed to write about when you live in a house with an HD TV and he lives in a bamboo hut?
You can send a letter or package once a month upto 60g. I thought about sending a nut or bolt or something every month from his age of 4 with a view to his having all the bits for a car by age 16.

I used to get pictures every year of the lad. They get dressed up in their Sunday best and look really uncomfortable. I think they must get donated clothes as one year tha lad had a "My friend went to Amsterdam and all I got was this lousy teeshirt" teeshirt on.

To be fair, you're donating to the community and you're given a personal comtact to bond with rather than a name on a map. I think I'd rather just do that really and have a picture of the whole village.
It crossed my mind that there's one kid in every village who is selected to be The Kid for all sponsors.
