I have been thinking this myself for a good while now, and I think a few others have too; friends of mine, my family, and people on here... One of the reasons is the uber-stupid storylines that they keep feeding us. I picked up this link on MSN that pretty much says exactly what I - and believe many more - have been thinking for ages. The soaps are losing the plot!
Soaps biggest blunders and silliest storylines.

One of the most stupid just lately - IMO - is featured there; Molly and Kevin Webster. One of the most badly thought-out and ridiculous soap 'romances' of the decade. Even Max and Stacey had 'some' plausibility. Max may not have been at the front of queue when they were handing out good looks, but he is charming and manipulative and smart and charistmatic, and he says all the right things. Much more appealing to many women than 'looks.' And Stacey was a lost little girl looking for attention and love. But the romance between Molly and Kevin came from no-where and was just plain daft IMO. The two of them together was laughable and incredibly unbelievable. Whoever thought of that storyline needs sacking!
The Dawn and Phil one from EE is pretty daft too and is also there, along with Dirty Den's return, and the most stupid soap storyline EVER that killed Dallas; Bobby Ewing turning up in the shower and it emerging that the previous year (or was it two?) had been a dream of his wife Pam's!
And before anyone says anything; I KNOW I don't have to watch! And I am pretty sure I WILL stop watching EE AND Corrie if they don't improve soon. I have watched Corrie since 1977 and don't wanna desert them, but enough is enough. It's has not been brilliant for about a year now. EE even longer!
