4-5 days..is that enough??...

I think so, you could be there a month and
not do it all, 4/5 days is fine, that's what we are looking to do,
A friend went last October and bought a
$70 dollar pass that worked out great value,
I'll check it out and let you know, It allowed travel on the subway, river boat, ferry etc,
coach to the outlets, it seemed really good value, mind you it was 2$ to the ÂĢ at that stage.

When we went we stayed in the Woogo apartments literally just off Times Square (west 44th street) dunno if they still are available (think they were turning them into private apartments). Went in May and it was just right Cool

We were there 5 days and it was ace! You have to do the Empire State building (day or night), Statue of Liberty, Central Park and Ground Zero. Oh and you HAVE to take a yellow taxi Thumbs Up

Times Square at night is fab, cant explain it, it's just such a brilliant city. Oh we also took a horse and cart ride at night and that was wicked as well!

Money wise, I spent a shedload (and lost my credit card as a result Laugh) but you can still do it on a medium budget. Food servings are HUGE over there aswell. (TGI Fridays in Times Square is crap but the one near Ground Zero is the bollocks)

Do you know BA are currently doing 299 return to NYC? You need to book by 22nd September (no sure when you need to travel by)

Oh God now I'm tempted to bloody book it Disappointed

Hi Spongey.

I went to NYC with my hubby and our daughter in 2005 for hubby's 40th. We stayed in the Edison Hotel in West 47th Street, and we went through GOING PLACES travel agent at the time. We worked it out and it was cheaper than paying for fares and then trying to find a hotel or B & B. We paid ÂĢ350 each for the return flight and five nights in a hotel with brekkie included.

It was a nice comfy hotel and was 5 minutes walk from Times Square. Probably best to get one in central manhattan so you are near to the sights. Like the big library (the one featured in the day after tomorrow,) the empire state building, the grand central station and of course Broadway and lots more.

You will more than likely have to get a cab or the underground to battery park and the financial district as it's about 3.5 to 4 miles, so there's no way you should be walking it really; not after spending hours walking round Manhattan. You would just be too knackered...

It's a wonderful place and has a great atmosphere and the people are lovely and the police very friendly. Smiler The 9/11 area is very sombre though and has an eerie feel to it. (That is in the far south of Manhattan...) There is so much to see and do. Hope you enjoy it. We loved it! We went in February and it snowed on our last day: it put down about 1.5 feet of it, and, within a few hours, all the roads and paths were cleared, and so were the runways at the airports! We hope to go to California next year! Smiler
