Little Miss Spurs
Airships? Confused Heard something in the sky this afternoon and thought for one second it was an airship. Of course it wasnt! Remember being about 5 in the School playground the first time I saw one and I was absolutely terrified Laugh Grew to love seeing them, but have not seen one for years. Why? Frowner

No, I saw one recently, well I say recently it was in the last 5 years.
They use them for commercial advertising but not for passengers since the Hindenburg disaster.

They're still about...The Zeppelin company was still manufacturing them in the 1990s, and there's an American company (Airship Ventures) which operates airship tours around San Francisco.
They weren't viable as commercial transport when compared to aeroplanes, because they're slow, they need a huge open space to land in, and they're very susceptible to wind.

They still have them at the Balloon Festival nr Bristol each year. I had the choice of going up in an airship or a balloon; chose the airship - it was stomach churning.

Laugh That would be practically double my age! Laugh The airships I was talking of were like the pic you posted, with the little bit underneath where people sat Big Grin Im sure none of my kids have ever seen one, and my eldest is 18! Theyve only ever seen the large "balloon" ones, that are sometimes strung over shops,or events, etc advertising companies,not the real ones! Frowner
