Lets say you really fancy this guy(who probably doesnt fancy you back) and you tell your best friend about him but before you know it, they are an item wouldnt you be hurt?
I don't think that's a comparable situation tbh....Marcus is a middle aged man not a teen aged bloke who should be mature enough to deal with things much better....Did he ever tell Siavash he fancied Noirin?.....Several HM's told Marcus exactly how things were ...Friends nothing more....The situation you describe could be applied to pubescent teens not older mature adults.
What nonsense, no offence, but when a man tells a woman that he has actually fallen in love with her, it is not just some throwaway statement, it is meant and he did mean it. The poor guy fell for her charms and had to cope with the rejection by retreating somewhat. I didn't see any tears or tantrums or threats to slash his wrists. I believe that he did in fact cope with the rejection in a mature and adult way. I don't know about you, but my experience as a teenager and those of my friends were that rejection or break ups were met with binge drinking, hard partying, chocolate, clothes buying, long tearful phone chats with friends, mood swings of anger then sorrow, loud music, smoking, fast driving, running, getting new haircut just anything extreme really.... ermm.... must be more ways... Well that was teenage. Marcus is stuck in a cardboard house being watched being humiliated by 3 million people. But he probably won't give his heart so easily again.
