Pissed off.

Just got a myself a decent wee car a 90s Mercedes with only 80k genuine miles and in good shape, well today I was leaving my street and was turning right (after giving way) on to the main rd, as I was turning I notice some nugget was reversing alongside me in the right hand lane onto the main rd !!! I noticed he was uncomfortably close but never heard or felt any impact, so thinking nothing more of it drove on.

Only when I reached my destination did I discover the piece of shit had in fact impacted the rear side of my car.

On the advice of a friend I didn't report the incident as he said, probably true that they wouldn't be likely to find the guilty party and that by reporting it my insurance could be affected.

So I either put up with the damage or pay a bodyshop Frowner because of some piece of shit that shouldn't be on the road. Mad

Ruined my day.

CO .... so sorry to hear that .... I understand how angry you must be feeling ... happened to me once and I have to say I second the advice of your friend about keeping the insurance company out of it ... I, unfortunately, reported it and went through insurance ... and for ages after my insurance premiums were ridiculous AND I had to stay with the same insurance company for a year after .... Shake Head

Shop around before you get any repairs done and get a few quotes from different places .... Hug

Is that right enough then ?

Assuming you're in England and Wales then see as follows: Big Grin

If you don't have the means to identify him then you're likely in difficulty although I was able to claim damages for an injury caused by an unidentified driver (the bastard drove off after hitting me) under the MIB Untraced Drivers Agreement. Damage to vehicles does not count though (unless recently updated, but I suspect not).

Reporting to the police is usually a good idea tactically speaking (it provides evidence that you reported the incident on the day and how it happened)but they are concerned with criminal matters. What you are after is civil redress. Without the means to identify the offender and in the absence of any resolution under the Untraced Drivers Agreement it seems - as upsetting as this must be, and how wrong it obviously is - that in layman's terms CO you're screwed. I'm so sorry - he MUST have known what he was doing... Frowner

Thanks Cariad.

Scotland here but I think it's the same.

I didn't report it to the police as I'd have had to inform the insurance company then wouldn't I ?
Comrade Ogilvy
You must be gutted CO. I would've been if anyone had hit my car. It nearly happened the other day in the Tesco car park. I was about to reverse into a space and someone started reversing out, and would have hit me in the side if I hadn't blown my horn. I have a titchy Corsa while they were in a big 4x4 whatever they call them. They probably didn't check their mirrors.

Hope you manage to sort it out cheaply. Such a shame. Frowner
