Lisa was saying to Bea that she is often mistaken for a male especially by older people.

Remember back in the 70's Croc (or are you too young?). Kratochvilova (sp) was very masculine and no one said anything about it in the papers - but of course it was commented on by the Gen Public.
Nowadays, they presume, print and then go and research.
She was pumped full of male hormones as many female east german athletes were and had serious health problems in later life

I think Jamie Lee Curtis had similar confusions at her birth. I don't think she is able to bear children as she has no womb etc. Just what I heard and I could be wrong. I think when there is confusion there can be minor surgery and the parents told to raise the child as a girl. Don't all shout at once, just what I was told.
thats an urban myth as a quick google will tell you

Not sure that our Fstima Whitbread was particularly feminine looking either but she was a great competitor
Thanks babes, I found that comment quite offensive.... Its typical of most folks finding African Ladies unattractive or non-femininequote:Originally posted by cologne1:quote:Originally posted by Sarum:quote:Is the winner of the women's 800m a geezer?
Well, you could have worded that a lot better...
I do feel sorry for Ms Semenya; she's getting an awful lot of unwanted attention over this from the media.
It's certainly possible that she may have an intersex condition; but it's also possible that she may just be built that way. A lot of women from the African tribes have what could be decribed as a masculine build; and the intense training she would have undertaken would certainly exaggerate that. Personally, I think that's a far more likely explanation, but I suppose we'll have to wait for the results of the IAAF 'gender test' (which, incidentally, aren't foolproof; in the 1992 Olympics, 5 women out of the 2500 tested failed to produce an unambiguous 'female' result, and in the 1996 games, that number went up to 8...and all of them were subsequently shown to be unquestionably female).
Incidentally,
I don't agree with African women having a masculine built, I lived in Nigeria for a long time and practically all the woman there were just that, all woman. Having said that, I think this story is horrible for this girl. I can't conceive of a scenario whereby they would let her compete as a girl when in fact she's not. Just nonsense.
Where in Nigeria did you live?
Poor girl only 18yrs but treated like shit.... They could have handled the situation alot better but they didnt... Shame on them... Now the poor girl will be stigmatised forever

And she did really well later on in life becoming the president of Libya!
Exactly .... especially before the race ... very unfair, imo.quote:Originally posted by sweet_tooth:
Its shocking that they let this story out before even investigating and before the race.

There is a long history of our sports stars becoming leaders of rogue states. Roy Keane par example.

Cocoa eyes, I'm truly sorry that I offended you with my post.
I was referring only to a particular body shape that might make some women better at athletic sports; I didn't mean to imply that this made these women unattractive or unfeminine (If you know my history, you'd realise that I'm the last person who could get away with calling anyone unfeminine; and I wouldn't even think of doing so).
Please accept my apology.
