After seeing the posts on here last night, I kept looking outside to see if I could see any shooting stars. About midnight, I put a bag of rubbish out, and as I was going back inside I looked up and saw two red/orange glowing orb shaped lights moving across the sky.

Ah, I thought. I didn't realise they were coloured! Then I thought, hang on, they are going too slow to be shooting stars, had no tail and I'm sure they were going in the wrong direction.

I watched them continue on their way, not in a straight line, and not cooridinated. After they'd gone some distance, I stopped seeing one, don't know if it went out or behind clouds, and the other continued until it was too small to see.

I thought, no they couldn't be UFOs could they? My logical side said no, but I don't know for sure.

Do you think I saw UFOs? Or do you think there was some other explanation, such as Chinese lanterns or the like? BTW I hadn't had anything to drink!

police helicopters Thumbs Up

Definitely not! No noise whatsoever, and their positioning if they had been helicopters would have meant I would have heard them.

Besides, we get enough police helicopters over here for me to know if I'd seen one! Laugh

If they are far enough away you can't hear them, but they do have those coloured lights and make quite erratic movements....I get helicopters like that here quite often and have been spooked by them Eeker until they come close enough to hear.

No, they really were relatively close so I would readily discount helicopters or planes.

My logical side thinks they must have been those Chinese lantern things. I've never seen one in action before, but looking them up on google, I think I would have to plump for them. My mind just wouldn't accept they were really UFOs!

Yes! Sorry! I confess I didn't read the bit about direction 'cos I'm still a little Crazy

I saw a UFO in 1977 and Elvis was on the tele in a white sparkly suit. (I was only 4) It was in the paper the next day too cos everyone was going nuts and calling the police. What could the police have done though? Tell them to put down their weapons or they'll shiit?

Lol, Karma....when we saw the lanterns last year we felt too silly to call the police but we called Manchester Airport to see what they could tell us but they knew nothing about it. It's like.....what do you DO when you see something strange in the sky?

It was exciting at the time to think we'd seen three ufo's in a triangle formation but we saw the funny side when we discovered what they really were. Glad we didn't phone the police too! lol

Hahaha!!

Well I remember it as clear as a bell. It was night time and I was looking out the window and I saw summat in the sky and thought it was a plane or a helicopter, but it was still and kept changing colours (red, orange, blue, green) then it would suddenly dart (really fast) across the sky to somewhere else and go all still again. Did this for about 2 hours until it darted off and disappeared. I remember everyone was out of their houses and cars stopped and everything. I was brickin it cos I thought they were gonna take me and Elvis away Eeker

Exciting stuff Jenny! I think many people have seen things that they can't explain in the sky, and I have seen things occasionally and have not known what they were, but there is a 99% chance it was something from this planet, or bits of debris from meteorites. But there is still a small chance it MAY be something from another world. Ninja And I think if something WAS spotted, NASA would keep it well quiet!

what you have described sounds like a meteor. my grandfather in law is right into that and was describing just what you said yesterday. he said he thought it was a plane at first but it was too fast to be a plane but not fast enuf to be a shooting star (as we are used to) so he got the telescope out and it was a shooting star just a big orange slow one that did just burn out.

The "speed" that a meteorite/shooting star moves at depends on the angle of entry into the earth's atmosphere. That is to say, the more acute the angle, the faster the speed will appear to be to a viewer stood on the ground looking upward.

The colour would be largely down to the content and make up of the particular object when subjected to the immense temperatures of entry. Something with a high iron content would burn orange/red.
