Cheers Dirtypretty, I'd be ok I think if I didn't have the elder two to physically run around after, my son is really very challenging....and it just makes everything feel so difficult.....I am really practical and handle stuff without a thought normally (cause I don't have time to moan or ponder) but this last week has totally floored me....I'm at the end of my rope, so to speak.....

...so you've been running at full speed for a long time... coping/succeeding in extreme circumstances... its no wonder when the stuff you're dealing with finally got too much for even you to handle that you feel floored!
lol, you're freaking out atm and I'm still sitting here full of respect for the way you're coping!
You're doing ok you know.

Hello.
Yep, been there, done that etc.,...
Reading your story bought back horrible memories for me. I was in exactly the same boat as you're in now. My luck was to chance meet a female consultant and an older Midwife who stepped in on my behalf and persuaded the MALE consultant to change his mind. They completely took over the responsibility, bless them.
I seriously despair that the male consultants don't quite appreciate how it is, whereas both the ladies instinctively knew that no good was going to come from me being left to go 'natural'. One commented that it wasn't about what the text books and manuals said!
Baby was delivered and needed 24hrs in SCBU as she was distressed (there's a surprise...) She's a healthy 19 yr old now.
Everything will be alright, but it's sad that you're experiencing such an awful time.

No, that's fine! He's been amazing actually, but works long hours and on a commute so it's a bit all over the place....he is taking a month off which is all his holiday leave so that he can properly take on everything after my c-section....he can't take more time off as he is more or less running a branch of his company single handledly due to staff cuts and the credit crunch...just very difficult on us all!
When he can do, he does sooo much!
My Mum is great too, but my Nan has cancer so she is accompanying her to appointmemts alot when she isn't giving me a hand and trying to work...
In-Laws are useless!

Thanks for this! I think I will just try and cope with it....still believe that all MALE PIG consultants should be outlawed.....if you don't have a chuff or a womb how the hell can you understand properly, I think!!!!
@ chuff!!!!
(my parents' dog is called Chuffley... I told them it was a dodgy name! )

Of course you'll cope - you're female!
It's not nice feeling so ill - it's debilitating and beyond explanation to those who don't understand. I can only empathise and hope you take as much chance to rest (what's that...?) as possible. x

You poor thing! Having been there myself twice, I have one word of advice for you that I was actually given by my midwife... LIE!
As you're borderline pre-eclampsic, call your midwife and tell her you have an agonisingly blinding sick headache that just wont go. That should ensure action.
Good luck, whatever you do

He sounds lovely!! In laws usually are!! Useless that is. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate at the moment, so I think the consultant should take that into consideration, surely if your blood pressure is high, that can affect the baby just as much as being a week early, not having kids I don't really know, but it would seem sensible to me.
Anyway, just keep coming on here and venting if you need to, just keep away from the arguementative threads, because of blood pressure!!

This.
Got a visitor so just flicked through the thread while she's nipped to the loo.
Lisagotnoshame. I'm so sorry you're having such a crap time. I suppose I'm lucky that my consultant is a no nonsense type woman. Can't you complain to someone about the male consultant and get a female instead?
Thanks everyone else for your advice and good wishes. Some posts on here have made me really laugh out loud.

Lisa - so sorry! Just after I posted that, work went all to hell and it's just tonight I'm getting a chance to look for your answer. You poor thing - what a hellish time. I can't say I know what it's like, never having been there, but all I can do is take my hat off to you. Hell... everyone's entitled to a meltdown down and again and with everything you've got to contend with and being in pain all the time, who can blame you. It seems like forever away I'll bet, but just hang in there and keep counting down... it'll be over (or just beginning) in a week. Have a - won't help you, but it makes me feel better!
I had a sweep with Marni on the saturday, I had a show and niggly pains, then again when the midwife came out on the monday, but she told me I was already 3cms dilated. Then 12 hours later Marni was in my arms.
Doesnt hurt at all

What is a sweep and stretch...never heard of it?
I've had 2 kids but have never heard it being mentioned to me.

Ahh, I remember now! I knew I'd heard about someone having a sweep before. Thanks Sheepy.
It doesn't hurt at all , pretty much like getting an internal and there will be plenty of them to look forward to when you are in labour
I had a sweep Monday at 8am Jessica was born Tuesday 2.30pm it reminded me of a cervical smear.
I only had a section because she was "too sleepy for labour" midwives words not mine.

Lisa You must be absolutely exhausted, they are unfeeling barstewards
Queenie, is sweep and stretch the same as effacing the neck of the womb (I think that's what they called it)?
If so I had it done 25 years ago with my second. They did it on the Wednesday as they were taking me in the next day to induce me - I was nearly 3 weeks o/d.
The next morning I had a few niggly pains when the midwife came to get me at 8.30 - my son was born at 11.08.
Hope you have as quick a time

Queenie, get them to break your waters when you go into hosptial, they did that to me at 3.15am when I was still 3cm and I gave birth 3.45am. Hard half an hour but better than waiting for ever more.
