Nod I'm a republican in principle but I can't be bothered worrying about a powerless monarch who is merely part of our heritage.

Old Hippy Guy, don't know what people you knocked around with. My family and friends would never feel like that Shake Head

ooer was just reading through this very interesting thread and spotted this, Hi Holly Wave
I thinnk I should make it clear that I had/have lots of Irish friends, and to be fair it was only a small minority of people who used to give me a hard time because of my nationality, the VAST majority where very friendly,
but there were a few "bad apples" shall we say,
I remember the night that the invasion of Iraq began (after 9/11) I was sitting in the canteen at work when one of my Irish workmates came over to me and said "I hope you are Fing proud of yourself you English c@@t" I was shocked, to say the least, especially as I had made it clear I was against the war, but he needed to vent his anger, and I was there and English.
I also had the "over here stealing our jobs" one thrown at me quite a few times as well, a bit rich, as I was there training Irish people to do a job that they couldnt do, as there were very few ceramic airbrush artists in Mullingar,
and at the time of the "rugby incident" carpetgate? I was cornered in a pub and given a right telling off, (I'm not even a rugby fan!)
and other times I would go into a shop and people would be so friendly, "over here on holliday?" they would ask, when I said "no I live here you would see their attitude change,
BUT, as I say these were not common events and most of the time I just got a bit of friendly "ribbing" which I didnt mind at all,
AND gave as good as I got haha, my favourite was to parody the Monty Python life of brian scene with the "what have the Romans ever done for us" speech, but changing Romans to English,...LOVE Ireland and the Irish sense of humour, Big Grin
