Mrs Jer used HRT patches for a few years under increasing pressure from the Quack to pack it in and go for "more natural products." She decided that Black Cohosh was useless for her, and probably more dangerous than HRT. As a lot of plants and shrub extracts are in fact.
Red Clover seems to be the one for her, although you are all individuals.

(Ah! M'first Safari snaffle)
I am now 3/4years post menopausal with no symptons of anything now.
I had horendous hot flushes at about 6pm each evening, plus a few through the day as well. At night, my OH said he thought my thermostat had gone because I was so hot.
My remedy for that was to take a cold water bottle to bed with me and that helped a lot.
Thanks for all of the advice. Red clover is one I had heard of, so maybe I'll give that a go. I also like the sound of the cold water bottle.

Homeopathy
I know one of the remedies they use is snake venom (not as bad as it sounds) I was too bad for that and had Sepia (cuttlefish ink) worked like magic and not expensive
Youwould need to see a homeopath but the remedies are not at all expensive
You can buy Sepia at a certin strength in Neals Yard Blackheathh FGG
With Homeopathy its important to match the symptoms of the individual with the remedies...there are lots of different ones..so go see a good Homeopath (or PM me Im one )
