Diets dont work Renton, the fact you are over eating in anticipation of it shows that and really wont help tbh.

The only way to lose weight imo is to as you said change they way you look/think about food, rather than take things you like away, crave them for a month or two then binge on them when you finish you diet, have them in moderation. swapping fatty/sugary snacks for fruit of low fat yoghurt etc.

In short dont diet, make life style changes

I thought exactly the same thing Jen, as soon as I read he was stuffing himself before going on the diet.... if you want to change your approach to food, faddy diets aren't the way to do it.

Renton, if you feel you need support or guidance with how to do it, do something like slimming world or weight watchers

renton...........have i read that right?......you're only going to have 554 calories a day?...........that is going to make you ill....it's not enough.....i don't know how much it's cost you but seriously.....i'd ditch it and write off the money........just follow a healthy eating plan and take regular exercise......walking,cycling,swimming.......or buy an exercise dvd to do at home.....you'll lose weight.........and more importantly you'll keep it off........

Crash diets really aren't a great idea Renton
554 calories a day just means that your body will store those calories as it will go into starvation mode- your brain cannot cope without the ability to synthesise energy easily and you will make yourself ill. You will be putting more strain on your body, which can lead to heart attacks etc
The cambridge diet has had a lot of bad press and as soon as you come off it you will put the weight on and more because you will have slowed your metabolism down so much
The best way to lose weight would be to watch what you are eating- cut right down on high fat foods, fill up on fruit and veg and swap sugary drinks or tea and coffee for water. Then increase exercise gradually. That is the longterm option and the healthiest way to live.

Cambridge Diet
bloody hell ... is that still on the go ? ..... I did that diet years ago ..... you used to get those horrible soups and milk shakes ..... Jeez!! I could never go back to that method for losing weight

I'll never forget the aspragus soup .... makes me feel sick just thinking about it

On a brighter note .... good luck & all the best with it Renton

you get counselling too though dont you on cambridge diet? i think it's a good idea for those who REALLY need the help, i'e morbidly obese (like me )...but for people who just need to lose a few it's just seen as a quick fix and it is not meant to be...it's mainly for people who basically have a food addiction (hence the counselling also), with other addictions you can go cold turkey...you cannot with food.

the diet works by ketonis...gets the calories needed by breaking down the extra fat you have...problem is you need ALOT of it to make sure you dont break down muscle instead..needs to be a last resort really.

good luck though, just look after yourself i know a man who did lighter life, he spent a long time being miserable about his weight and was addicted to food, and because of his weight he was depressed and ate more...only way he could break the cycle was to do lighter life...it worked for him and he's not put on weight either and it's been over a year since he came off it....he even smiles now

Firstly - thank you to everyone who has wished me look.
Secondly - rest assured i am under the supervision of a qualified nurse.

The maintenace level calorie intake (3 supplements and one small meal - my personal choice = 600 calories) will last 12 weeks max and i can readjust to more calories at any time.
The philosohy then allows me to progress towards greater calorie intake and increased exercise to maintain my target weight.
I can stop/adjust or even restart at any time ... a lot of the responsibility for my welfare relies on my honesty about all this and that's wot i need.
I also need a new attitude towards food and losing 2lbs a week while eating anything i want (aka Weight Watchers philosophy) will not change my attitude to  food nor give me enough incentive to continue.
What will give me the incentive is to be my target weight and focus on never being over weight again. Its a long term thing, considered and sensible.
I have read your alternative comments and recognise the alternatives and pitfalls.
Its a personal choice i know i need to make . . . thank you for wishing me well

Renton i have no doubts this diet will work if you stick to it, i do hope however by the time you come off it you can stay at your target weight and your health hasn't suffered too much as a result of the low calorie intake.

One thing though, i doubt you can do very much exercise on such a low intake, with this in mind how are you going to change your lifestyle to incorporate exercise once you return to choosing what you eat yourself? Not having a go at you just giving you something to think about (Was gonna put food for thought there but thought better of it )

Just take care of yourself!
Jen-Star

JENSTAR - the plan moves on to introducing healthy eating regimes where the calories are increased whilst exercise is encouraged. You're right - i cannt exercise on such a low calorie intake - but this will last for as long as i can comfortably manage or a max of 12weeks.

I'm kinda looking forward to the exercise part cos i want to change my lifestyle and its a shame i have to wait.

Today i have felt fine - nice salad and cottage cheese - but have a headache and that to be expected. Otherwise all is ok - but its early days

Good Luck Renton .........i really and truly hope you achieve the weight loss you desire.
In my experience though - it's all about re educating yourself re food ............planned meals and vitamin sipplements isn't a lifelong thing. There are always people willing to take your money when desperate.
Perhaps you should look at it long term - Slimming World has (IMO) a healthier attiotude - it may take longer but it really does work whilst at the same time educates you to a healthy (slimmer) lifelong plan.
Whatever .............I wish you good luck.
